2011 Campaign – Buy Strong Get Smart

by Toughees on February 13th, 2012 at 8:42 am
Posted In: Competition

This year Toughees decided to reach out more to our younger market, but we still wanted to make sure our loyal parent’s were not left out. We settled on offering Apple iPads and iPhones as prizes for our competition. Not only are these products desired by all ages, but they have the same high standards as that of Toughees.

Our theme of Buy Strong, Get Smart referenced how our consumers make smart choices when they buy Toughees as they get a product that is strong, durable, and has a 6 month guarantee and because of these qualities it keeps it looking smart for longer. Apple products are smart products which tie in with Toughees brand values.

This year Toughees launched their social media marketing campaign. We utilized a MXit and Facebook campaign to engage both the adult and youth markets. Expect to see more from us on these mediums.

Thank you to all who participated in the competition and congratulations to all our winners who have chosen Apple iPads as their prize.

Looking for School Shoes? Why Real Leather is a Must

by Toughees on February 11th, 2012 at 12:43 pm

My parents always said, you get what you pay for. While being cost conscious is a good thing, there are certain products you simply shoul not ‘skimp’ on. School shoes are one of those products. There are certainly options out there, but beware of the low- price lure of shoes made of synthetic material.
With the amount of time your child spends in them, and the level of activity they are put through, your child’s school shoes need to be a quality leather product for many reasons. But first, let us have a quick take on leather itself.
What is leather
Leather is defined by Wikipedia as a durable, flexible material created by tanning animal hide and skin. It is often sanded and buffed to remove imperfections. The tanning process used to create leather converts the protein of the hide or skin into a stable material.
Why it’s better
  • Durability: Leather is a strong material that, when properly cared for, lasts longer, and is stronger. Shoes made from synthetic material can crack.
  • Flexibility: Because leather is basically an organic, soft material, it stretches better and more naturally. This flexibility means fewer pressure points on your child’s feet, which can create sore spots. If your child’s foot is snug in a synthetic shoe, it will simply push against the shoe until they wear out or crack, often causing pain. Unlike what a salesman may tell you, the synthetic leather material will not stretch.
  • Breatheability: Let us face it, those little feet can sweat. If the shoes do not breathe, not only can the shoes develop an odour, but the foot can swell. Unlike synthetics, leather breathes and can

History

The Toughees brand started producing their first shoe in 1954, and since then they have become the preferred school shoe choice for South African children. By not comprising our commitment to quality in our product or our service to our loyal customers. Toughees has been worn by generation after generation of children.

Why buy Toughees School Shoes?

Because they are made strong to last long. Every pair is made with Genuine leather and if for some reason a pair fails our high standards of quality control – you have the peace of mind that each pair has a 6 month guarantee against fair wear and tear

Many school children throughout South Africa have to walk kilometres to school, crossing dusty veld, dirty roads and sometimes even streams and small rivers! But this is all taken into account with Toughees. We’ve even had pairs last the entire High School career, from Grade 8 to Grade 12! Now that’s Strong.

Did you know:

  1. 1.     All Toughees shoes come with a 6 month Fair Wear and Tear Gaurantee.
  2. 2.     All Toughees shoes are made with Genuine Leather Uppers.
  3. 3.     Our range of Non-Polish shoes are made uniquely with an easy care application to protect against scuffmarks, stains and even water!

But we don’t stop there..

Here at Toughees we are committed to our customers, both children and parents alike. That’s why, with the consultation of the South African Podiatrist Association, Toughees has developed its Platinum Range of shoes that encourage strong foot development. They are slightly wider and also lighter, softer and more flexible.

So don’t forget, when you’re deciding on a pair of school shoes for your children this year, there’s only one name to remember – Toughees. The preferred choice of school shoe for South African Children.
