2012 Campaign: Go The Distance

The Toughees “Go the Distance” theme reminds our consumers about the amount of time a child spends in their shoes. The distances travelled require a shoe that has strength, durability and comfort, all of the product benefits that Toughees is renown for.

Building on the launch of our Facebook page in 2011, this year we decided to run a competition again on this platform. In keeping with the theme of “Go the Distance”, we want Toughees fans to tell us how their Toughees have helped them go the distance by telling us “What you have done in your Toughees.”

The aim of the competition is to get fans to post videos, pictures and stories of the weird and wacky things that they have been through in their Toughees school shoes.

The competition runs for 6 weeks from the 3rd of December 2012 to 13th January 2013. Weekly prizes include an iPod Shuffle and Toughees school vouchers. We settled on offering iPod Shuffles because not only are these products desired by all ages, but they have the same high standards as that of Toughees. iPods can “Go the Distance” in gym, on the road to and from school and in any terrain.

Each week Toughees will post a theme on the Facebook page, to which fans have to respond to by posting a video, picture or story connected to the theme and their Toughees school shoes. The entry that receives the most likes from fans during the week will receive a prize of an iPod shuffle. Toughees will also choose the post of the week that they most like and that fan will be rewarded with a Toughees school shoe voucher.

This year Toughees decided to reach out more to our younger market, but we still wanted to make sure our loyal parent’s were not left out. We settled on offering Apple iPads and iPhones as prizes for our competition. Not only are these products desired by all ages, but they have the same high standards as that of Toughees.

Our theme of Buy Strong, Get Smart referenced how our consumers make smart choices when they buy Toughees as they get a product that is strong, durable, and has a 6 month guarantee and because of these qualities it keeps it looking smart for longer. Apple products are smart products which tie in with Toughees brand values.

This year Toughees launched their social media marketing campaign. We utilized a MXit and Facebook campaign to engage both the adult and youth markets. Expect to see more from us on these mediums.
